L said he dreamt of our baby last night, jumping around in the ultrasound. It was not a fetus, but more similar to the blob we saw at the actual ultrasound on Week 7. Except this blob had the shape of a small baby that can bounce from one corner of the uterus to the next..like balls of blobs in a Pacman video game. I told him I dreamt of a baby too. My sister wanted to see "it"; I told her the baby was only pea-sized. Before I knew it, the baby was out of my womb and formed baby-like in slushee format. They were about an inch big each, lined up, all three of them, colored yellow against a blue baby jumpsuit, like perfectly formed ice candies, smiling with their eyes and fist closed. We were oggling at them and then in a few minutes they were starting to melt, like the sugary grains of Slurpee. I was giggling in my dreams.
At Week 10 I am now starting to watch what I eat because I gained 7 lbs from Week 4 to 10 when at this point I should only have gained 3-4 lbs. I could no longer fit into any of my slacks and I hate tight fitting clothes. I dislike the feeling of wearing leggings when I was not pregnant, and now I abhor it but they just snug right onto my tummy. L keeps calling our child, "Little Buddy" and seems sure he made a son. I am not quite sure how to feel about this as all I ask for most fervently is to have a normal, happy, healthy baby. He tells me he gets scared of the girly things we will do if I do get a girl, and you know how he feels about girl talks..he quietly slips away and drifts out of the conversation entirely. The thought made me laugh out loud, especially when he cringed at the made-up little princesses we saw at Boni High Street's Princess Studio, where boa feathers, tiara and pink makeup are what you see when little girls walk out of the salon.
Mostly, though, I am trying my best to enjoy this stage, although let me be frank and say it is hardly a savory thing. I have morning sickness almost every day since Week 7 hit me, which goes to say that nausea hits me morning, noon or night. It is strongest in the morning as I head straight to the bathroom when I wake up. In the afternoons, it seems I followed lunch with gulps of air because my tummy feels bloated and full of air. When I eat a cup of rice at lunch or dinner I almost always have to puke after so I try to eat less rice, and more fruits and vegetables. I keep a log of my weight gain, which started in July when I went back to exercising because I gained all the weight I lost before I got married, due to (duh) indulgent eating and my bad knee which prevented me from exercising. I also started cooking, and found to my delight I enjoyed it, more so because L enjoyed the dinner I'd cook (that's the kicker right there- we had heavy dinners. Our doctor said we were having twins when she looked at L's tummy and mine). By August I was already starting to lose weight when I went back to badminton and boxing, totalling at least 6 hours of exercise a week, and then wham, bam! We got pregnant!
We were delighted, of course, as were our parents who wished this for us, as they know we married late. My mother in law, as it turned out went to Our Lady of Manaoag on September 8 and made the wish! Of course, Mama Mary would not be able to resist such birthday requests.
These past few weeks I hate watching television and switched to soothing classical and chant music. L indulged me and finally bought us an ipod dock (hello Christmas wishlist 2007 pa) because nothing is worse than a woman belching it out in the washbasin, with tears in her eyes (from nausea) and saying "I can't stand the noise from TV!" Surprisingly, for someone who has difficulty sleeping, at this stage I sleep like a baby and am beat by 8 PM. When I rest in bed I usually read myself to sleep and it shocks me that I can sleep by 9:30 PM and sleep soundly throughout the night. Books tell me it is because my body is busy on an overdrive- after all, it is creating a baby inside, forming its organs, shaping its arms and feet, creating tissue, building muscles, bones, cartilage and teeth.
In the early mornings I find myself talking to my unborn child, uttering half a prayer half conversation. I told my child this morning:
My dear child,
you are most loved and wanted.
Even before we lay our eyes on you, we already love and care for you.
I promise to take care of you, and teach you the ways of the world.
But most of all, what your father and I hope for is for you to know about love,
respect, and about living the best life you can possibly have.
We thank the Lord for this gift of life.
He has entrusted us this gift, deeming us worthy to take care of your body and soul.
We are grateful for this opportunity to show to you how beautiful life can be.
We have been blessed not by riches, but by simply counting our blessings, grateful each day, loving each day. We look forward to the wonderful future when we can hold you, see you, hug you , smell you, play with you, hear you laugh and tell stories. Already you bring so much joy, by allowing us to look ahead with so much hope and dreams for our future.

I Do. I Did. Now What?*
These days, everyone asks me how it is like to be married.
I haven't quite figured out a way to answer it. Each time I get asked this question, sometimes people answer it themselves, or they hang on every word. Sometimes L and I answer at the same time, sometimes with the same answer. Sometimes only one of us answer. Sometimes we just smile.
"Pareho lang ba?" (Is it just the same?)
Everyone wants to know if anything has changed. Maybe they don't really want to know and are just being polite, but I thought about it one night while I was busying myself with two books, a muted TV show at the background, and my stew quietly simmering. I still pursue so many things at the same time, I still have my own thoughts and endless lists. He has the same sense of humor and languid weekend disposition. We have bills to pay, stress from work, dreams of travel; we share chores and debts, as well as savings and ...long-term goals. Yes, we actually started sharing with each other our goals and are consciously spending more time between friends and families.
The truth is, it's been peaceful, light and more fun (ok don't kill me). We rarely fight, as if (finally) the score has been settled. We poke fun at each other for gaining weight and continue to shower each other with warm thoughts and kind words. (Cheesy ba?)We continue to support each other's goals and dreams as if life depended on it. We laugh out loud; we laugh more often.
Sometimes I forget, but I remind myself I have to think about what he wants before making a decision (Should I buy the shoes or just hide my loot in my bag? LOL. Actually more ordinary stuff like what kind of food will I cook). He swore he won't forget that I will be the first one he will share his good news with, and that he can't omit or hide big purchases (I know someone who hid his Macbook from his wife and kept it in the trunk of the car for months- of course she discovered it; someone with a big shoe collection, someone with a Vespa collection). I removed my Sunday badminton game to spend more time with him on weekends, and he was willing to sit through Eclipse with me (Eclipse was terrible, but he is NOW willing to try a chick flick every now and then instead of just watching only action movies on the big screen). There is a lot more of sharing that the only danger I see is losing one's self by giving in to what the other wants. But then we know that won't happen as we married late and we both love our individuality. He has his thing and I have mine.
We just have to get to it soon, as more often it just feels more comfortable to cuddle on lazy Sunday afternoons.

The Reveal: The Wedding Gown Story
Posted on Jul 23, 2010 01:14 AM
Excerpt from the interview by Vatel Manila:
http://vatelmanila.blogspot.com/2010/06/photographer-focus-pat-dy.html
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
I looked at the internet and magazines for inspiration. In Style, Wedding Essentials, Style Me Pretty were my favourites along with the website of Jose Villa, a wedding photographer from the US who only uses film (really!). I narrowed down the look according to what I felt fit my height, body structure, skin tone, and the theme of the wedding. Then I looked for designers to see what designs appealed to me.
I saw Debbie Co’s gown in Wedding Essentials and liked her aesthetics-clean lines but always with an accent that make it very feminine and classic at the same time. I used to visit her shop in Astoria Plaza but I didn’t know she did gowns. I sent a pdf file of my overall vision for the wedding and over ten gown pegs with my annotations. I did this with three other designers - met with them and compared prices. The most efficient was Debbie and it was pretty much a smooth experience from that first e-mail. I ended up having my mother and the mother of the groom, the flower girls’ tutu dresses, the ring bearers’ kaftans plus the bridegroom’s outfits done by her as well. It was a very enjoyable experience.
Here are two among many designs for a Boracay wedding inspiration.

I was very drawn to the very fine and soft look of this gown.

Out of the 6 designs of Debbie Co, I was torn between the first and the last.

Finally, I went with Debbie's recommendation and chose the simpler one.

I vividly remember the last fitting session where Ime cried when I was fitting the gown. It was both a touching and funny moment. The gown is so simple, and yet so lovely.
Here are wonderful shots of the gown during my wedding. At last, the reveal!

Here are shots of me, with your indulgence, rocking this simple gown!

Both MOB and MOB gowns were also made by Debbie. My instructions to Debbie were to make them gorgeous. Debbie sketched my mother's gown in less than ten minutes after we went to see her. I love the way her dress matches mine; love the wooden beads too!

L's mama's gown was more bongga and it fits her perfectly. See the creases that also match my gown?

Here are the tutu dresses of the flower girls. At first the other girl was in pink, the other in lavander. But Debbie changed it both to pink since she knows that when asked, girls would always choose pink. I also asked that instead of floor length to have their tutus cut to knee length. Here Naya looks lovely in her pink slippers and a butterfly pink headband.

The boys' kaftans. Perfect with the starfish boutonnieres.

And finally, the walk down the aisle.

A Lovely Day

My 2-week vacation is almost drawing to a close. Work starts tomorrow, and when people say back to the grind, I kind of know what it means, but it is still holiday today. I am visiting my parents in Sta. Mesa, Manila after voting in our local precinct, while the hubby (yes, it feels good saying that) is already back to work after casting his vote in Quezon City. So I guess things are going back to normal, and a good thing too, since I can not just watch the video and onsite photo coverage of Bordoy Viterbo and Pat Dy over and over. I can not continue waking up eager to view new photos from friends who uploaded them, and or reading comments on those photos from friends and families all over the world, made possible by Facebook. I do not live in fairyland where friends and families continue to regale me with delightful inside stories as we do a post-mortem of that wonderful day. I have to come down to earth.
She Says:
I can not be any happier about that day. All those nights spent planning, for a single day's event-- the happiness of bringing together our families and friends made it all worth it. Everything just seemed to fall into place. Friends were there, pitching in, as coordinators, as yaya, as eventologist, as hosts. Cielo was my maid of honor, and her absence during the planning was not felt because she was there to take charge of the day. Our other friends became her soldiers, obeying without resistance any order she barks out. How could I almost forget about Mama being there for the photo op while we're getting dressed before going to church? She had the presence of mind to know this (after marrying off her two sisters), and asking my mother to come back for those precious photo ops.
Sony is a real trooper, assisting both Louie and me, while still attending to Cielo's errands (for me- ok, the trolley carrying in the sand and watching it wasn't for me).
Charmz, thank you for wrapping the gifts for the offertory, and for agreeing to lector and to make a speech in front of everyone. I could hear you singing, I could see you crying, and I still remember the happiness etched on your face as we made our thank you speech.
Rea, you were as cool as a cucumber and as lovely as ever. Emi and Yoy, your words, your families being there made it extra special. Now we are all officially tied to one another.
The Kingspoint boys and girls provided all the laughter:" A TOAST" (I thought it was all there was to Mike's toast, those two words); April's unforgettable reading of the responsorial psalm, and all of you girls battling it out to win Pat's attention, while the boys were oggling the Lim sisters.
Thanks to Robert and Anne who made it to our wedding- they are up next! They are a lovely couple, and more than the physical, they both have good hearts.
So it is no surprise to surround ourselves with our friends at the presidential table while we let our parents sit together with our other relatives (who were catching up, yes, like a reunion), and our other friends and colleagues on the other side, so they too can have as much fun as they can.
I remember distinctly two things during the wedding- my walk down the aisle and the onsite coverage of our photographer and videographer. The first was my moment, when everyone's eyes were on me, while at the same time they were holding their digital cameras and phones. Everyone had a huge smile on their face, and I finally succumbed to that LoVe, hugging it in my heart, made visible by my tears. I was very happy and at the same time felt serene at that very moment. You wouldn't know, but the previous night I was almost ready to micromanage, and worried too much about the weather. It rained on the 28th, and it POURED on the 29th. But since I know our mothers would pray to God for sunshine, I calmed down when I was dragged out of the happy family reunion at the rehearsal dinner to relax and get ready for my day. Every bride needed that. I just regret that we didn't get to spend a lot of time with our relatives.
The other highlight of that beautiful day was when we all sat down to look at Pat's photos and Bordoy's onsite video coverage. At first there was clapping, a lot of oooohhing and aaaaahhhhhhhhhhing, then peals of laughter, tears of joy...and then finally shrieks. The photos and videos totally captured the tone, the mood, the colors, the vibe, the loveliness of that special day, seen in us as a couple, our parents, our friends, our guests.
On hindsight, as we thanked everyone during the bride and groom's thank you speech, we may have forgotten those other special people in our lives who have helped shape this day- our prayer warriors (Hi Mariel), our artist/photographer friends and families who helped design a lot of the wedding details (special thanks to Dandee for the directional signages, they were perfect!, Ellen for the stickers, and Marco for the Vespa photoshoot, which I used as inspiration for the flowers, and the color scheme), Dylan my newfound love- you are an artist and as a line from the movie goes, "If you build it, people will come". Your flowers were exquisite! Ate Rory for booking my guests, taking care of my family and battling your first wedding- I thank you for your time and new-found friendship. To all our friends and families who wished us well, but could not make it, thank you for your gifts and warmest wishes.
As for Louie, finally being together will make the laughter unending. You truly make me shine.
What else can a girl ask for?

Final Thoughts Before Getting Hitched
Posted on Apr 29, 2010 04:06 PM
I hardly slept. Was in bed by 12;30 AM and I was awake by 6. I tried to sleep again but the effort was futile. I dreamt I was fighting with some other girl in my dream. I think I was fighting with my ugly self, trying to exorcise my being single (for the longest time) and being haunted by that image of being under a veil and a cord. Being under that veil meant succumbing to the power struggle, making me a devoted and faithful wife, listening to the husband and following his wishes. No wonder I had trouble sleeping, while L was sound asleep as soon as his back hit the bed. I should have taken Red Horse as well, like he did during rehearsal dinner, with the male entourage and his sponsors who flew in from all over. Instead I worried, and fretted, and almost panicked. The flights from Cebu Pac (or Cebu Pathetic) were getting delayed, my Moets haven't arrived, there is the case of the missing luggage and thus, two missing entourage gowns, what if my band's flight gets delayed? They won't make it to the wedding! Arrgh. By 9 PM I was panicky, and the rain, it kept raining from 4 PM til 9!
By this time, Gel of Discovery Shores knew exactly what she had to do, and almost forcibly got me out to have my Mandala signature spa, leaving behind the laughter, the alcohol, the revelry, the chaos, and the panic for a need to micro manage. So as final thoughts to a bride to be- get a good coordinator, get your entourage and guests two days before the event to get to a destination wedding, and eat out or have your rehearsal dinner catered. But the most important ones- relax, smile, walk slowly when your moment comes down the aisle, left together, right together, waltz your way to the altar and enjoy your day!
Here comes the bride!

You're Really Lovely, Underneath It All
Posted on Apr 21, 2010 04:00 PM

There's times when I want something more
Someone more like me
There's times when this dress rehearsal
Seems incomplete
But, you see the colors in me like no one else
And behind your dark glasses you're...
You're something else
Chorus:
You're really lovely
Underneath it all
You want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lucky
Underneath it all
You're really lovely

You know some real bad tricks
And you need some discipline
But, lately you've been trying real hard
And giving me your best
And, you give me the most gorgeous sleep
That I've ever had
And when it's really bad
I guess it's not that bad
(Repeat Chorus)

So many moons that we have seen
Stumbling back next to me
I've seen right through and underneath
And you make me better
I've seen right through and underneath
And you make me better
Better... better...
Lady Saw:
You are my real Prince Charmin'
Like the heat from the fire
You were always burnin'
And each time you're around
My body keeps stalin'
For your touch
Your kisses and your sweet romancin'
There's an underside to you
That so many adore
Aside from your temper
Everything else secure
You're good for me, baby
Oh that, I'm sure
Over and over again
I want more
Gwen:
You've used up all your coupons
And all you've got left is me
And somehow I'm full of forgiveness
I guess it's meant to be
(Repeat Chorus)
You're really lovely
Underneath it all
You want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lovely
Underneath it all
And you're really lovely

Sssh :Quiet Time
Posted on Apr 24, 2010 03:45 AM
It's 3:45 AM. I was sleepy as early as 2PM, right after I did the quarterly performance report (QPR) in front of the management team, but up to now I am still up. I guess my mind could not believe it's time to slow down. I got used to the frenzy, the busy-ness and the organized chaos of my schedule that my body is still adjusting. Or is it my mind? I actually cooled off a bit after a relaxing massage right after work. It instantly removed a lot of the stress, but gave me some more renewed energy. Especially after seeing Charissa in her bridesmaid outfit. I love the champagne color, the flowy chiffon fabric that moves as light as the air, the coolness of the nude color as against her skin, or anybody's skin for that matter, and the soft cascading length of the hem. I can almost imagine the sand touching them. Cha was so ecstatic she didn't want me to undress her, and asked to look at her pictures over and over again. Imagine, guys, what a dress can do to girl?
For now I just want to lay on the bed, read and relax. Breathe in and out.
There are still many errands on my list, so many stuff to hand over or finalize, and so many people to thank. But until I am relaxed and have slowed down, I will, for a moment, savor this moment of peace and quiet. No schedule, no agenda.
Sshh. Be still.

How to Pose for Photos
While waiting for a report, here is a really practical write-up I found on the web.
How to Pose for Pictures
Ultimate Photo Challenge
We asked Cosmopolitan's photography director, Jennifer Miller, to give us her advice on how to best pose in photos. Whether you're the bride, in the wedding, or just a guest, use these tips to take the perfect Facebook-worthy picture.
Posing Alone: What Not to Do

Posted on Apr 19, 2010 11:34 PM
"Never stand fully facing the camera," advises Miller. "Another important thing to watch out for is your posture — no slouching! And remember: It's not a passport photo. Add some personality!"
Don't feel uncomfortable about striking some poses in front of your mirror to practice, either. "It's the only way you'll know what angles best work for you," Miller says.
Posing Alone: What to Do

"Keep your head up and your shoulders back," says Miller. "Keep yourself tall to slim yourself instantly."
Turn your body three quarters to make yourself look thinner and more natural. Shift your weight to the back leg to "give shape and sass to your look," says Miller.
To combat arm flab, put your hand on the hip facing the camera, which will immediately make your arm look trim.
Posing with a Friend: What Not to Do

If you want to look great in photos, resist the urge to go over the top with cheesiness. "After a drink or two, it may seem hilarious," Miller says, "but getting too gummy or toothy is never a flattering look for anyone." Try a half-smile, which is sexy and intriguing.
Make sure to keep hands soft. "Don't let your fingers hang weirdly," says Miller, "and above all, avoid the claw-hand."
Posing with a Friend: What to Do

"The key to posing with someone else," Miller says, "is to tuck yourself into your friend and really lean back. This puts you both at your best advantage." You also want to make sure you keep your hair off the shoulder closest to the camera "so you open up your face."
If you're having trouble getting a comfortable, natural-feeling pose, Miller suggests breathing deeply and relaxing. "If you feel stiff, just shake it out," she says. "It sometimes helps to look away for a moment and then throw a look to the camera."

13 Days To Go: Trial Hair and Make Up, 3rd Fitting and the Prenup Photo Shoot
Posted on Apr 17, 2010 10:25 PM
I triple-booked again today and it's exhausting!
7- 9:30 AM: Trial hair and make-up. Airbrushing as base foundation and traditional brush make-up using Mac, Bobbie Brown,Nars cosmetics. Hair: updo for the church, curled updo will translate well to a Dyosa look when the hair is let down. BUT. L doesn't like me in kulot.
Comments please: Straight or kulot? How about the makeup?
Makeup above at 9:30 AM, make up here 5 hours after
Note to the entourage:
Girls be ready on the 30th as early as 7 AM. Don't worry, the makeup lasted for 12 hours. My only comments are:
(1) no matter what your make-up is, tired eyes would look tired. So girls, let's sleep early on the 29th. Alcohol also dehydrates. Ok maybe let's rethink that one. But I need to get some sleep soon! Hindi na ako mukhang 25!
(2) Lavish lashes is not recommended since the makeup artist could not put mascara on. So either have it removed, or work around it. Today that's what we did, and when I removed the makeup, I also removed 2 silk lashes.
We also need to be assembled by 1 PM at the Discovery Shores for Pat Dy's photo session. Guys: I don't know, will check.
By the way, PAGING RED, MARCO, MIKE, ANDY, JEFF- where is L's stag party???Pagbigyan nyo na. This will only happen once! P.P.S Gustong sumama ng mga boys ng Marketing. LOL.
12:30-1:30 PM. 3rd Fitting: My gown's waist beadwork is perfect with the silver beads on my Havaianas. L also has his pair of white Havaianas, with a single swarovski on each flip flop. Make Your Own Havaianas happening this weekend at the Powerplant Mall. There's still time to personalize your own pair of Brazilian sandals to be brought to Boracay. Veil has swarovski and beadworks as well; the Bible, rings, arrhae are ready. Wait, where is the cord? Where do I get the cord? Saw Naya and Caitlin's gown and they both felt like princesses in it. Happiness! The kaftans for the boys are also really cute! Mothers and Chris' suit will be ready for pick up next week.
I bought a summery dress from the atelier. Shocks. It was teasing, haunting me, and then this time, when I wore it, it was just perfect. Mukhang Dyosa. Now when do I wear this? To your birthday party Julia? Or the rehearsal dinner? Or after the second set of Coffee Break Island? Can definitely be worn for another summer wedding, would be perfect for a garden wedding.
3-9PM: Rushed Prenup, as we reached Canyon Woods at around 4:30 PM and tried to catch the sunset. I have several photos I already like, but Rea-san, I blame you for the outfit selection. I had a punit na Zara top, a Dorothy Perkins untailored dress, wrong shoes for the dress, and wrong bag for the dress. Hay! But the shoot was fun. I especially loved the shoot where L and I were on the grass overlooking the chestnut trees, clicking on my G11, while the real photographers were clicking their Nikon while we click (or pretended to click) with both our hands holding the camera. I loved this feeling, and remembered Diane Lane and hubby Josh Brolin would do this every time they travel. Can be a nice tradition, too, especially if it makes such great photos, showing our inner happiness.

Cheesiness!
Citrusnap photography by my cousin, Rory Rebustes and her mahal!
Flipping the LCD of the Canon G11 makes this shot possible. Driving down from Tagaytay.
For next week, bear with me as I try to soldier on with both work and the last stretch of the wedding preps. Flowers, RSVP, assigning who will bring my 2 cases of liquor (hello officemates), misalette and reception program. I know, I know, I'm trying. But it's catching up on us.........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Completing Your Outfit: The Shoes
Posted on Apr 18, 2010 07:35 PM
You guys remember this peg for the male entourage, right?
So we figure you have to choose the shoes that will complete the outfit. The Havaianas will be perfect for the beach but it would feel a little bit dyahe to wear those at the church, so we looked for some ideas. If you have a pair of white espadrilles (comfy ones we found are Tom's, Paez, Sanouk, but they are pricey), or white sneakers, they would do just fine.
Lfound this white Adidas for P1995. He is still thinking about it. This vs the white Tom's shoes we found in Boracay.
Although he swore he'd never wear CROCS, L gave me a sign of approval for buying this for my Papa. This would be perfect with his white top and khaki pants. Or with his shorts or with his jeans.
So men, have you got your outfits na?
For the ladies, it would be really nice to see you in lovely, nude pastel colors. Make sure your fabrics are light because of the unbearable heat. See you really soon!

Today's Topic: Shower Parties of Love
Posted on Apr 10, 2010 08:26 AM
It's the last 20 days!
Work has been non-stop, and who's complaining? Finally met our facebook friend Jaime who was here to help us out on two very important projects, and I am glad my team is now ready to move forward with full support from everyone. Thanks to Jaime (and Charles), we found a reason to search for the best crispy pata in town, which led us back to Fely J's, and finally finding out ang Sikreto ni Maria Clara, plus having a reason to check out Max's Giant Halo Halo. This is part of our job description- cheers!
Jaime thinking the Halo Halo is Supersized and just for one.
During the same week I met up with my "sister" Cathe, who is based in Doha, Qatar, for some quality time. We did it the Nail Spa Lounge Diva style. Two assistants per person fussing over us, while we gab in between tears of joy. I'll never forget this special moment alone with you sister. That was a big, warm hug, the kind that is welcome on this hot humid weather.(Please do send me our picture together.)
Finally, one of our last encounters with BFF Cielo who is moving to Singapore on Monday. Thanks for helping me out with Naya's flower girl dress, and to do some "research" on those lavish lashes. Eyeloveit! Thanks for addressing my special needs for lavish lashes. As the song goes, "I feel pretty, so much pretty!"..and it shows, di ba?
Before

After

Then, a celebration of LOVE and LIFE at Burgos Circle, with a Nectar Imperial straight from Epernay, France, courtesy of BFF Sony. Together with....dyaran...KEBAB!

Blissfully bubbly!

...And an impromptu audition from Rea as the wedding party's reception host, judged ala American Idol (Sony as Simon, Armi as Paula, not Ellen, and Cielo as Randy).

By this time the gang revealed to me their numerous hen party plans, including a nail spa party (you know i love that-there's a Korean nail spa at D'Mall), and one that involves blindfolds, a man, and some dancing ( a different kind of dancing). With everyone's busy schedules (and I mean especially mine, and Cielo's), we found ourselves booking another one on the 29th, this time with Ime, Yoy and Charmz to make the gang complete. Let's do a spur of the moment thing!

How sweet it is to be loved by ALL of YOU!
Thank you!

Thank you!

Today's Topic: Food From The Discovery Shores
Posted on Apr 07, 2010 01:17 AM
To my foodie team (and guests who love food),
As D-day nears, I envy Flery's young body, as it is easy for her to lose 5 kilos in just 4 months- all she had to do was to watch what she ate (tama ba Achi?). (When I was your age I weighed 105 lbs, sheesh!)
As you know, I've been haulin' my ass off to box, do badminton 8 hours a week, and I have been willfully trying not to eat rice during dinner, but I only managed to lose 4 kilos in 3 months. There are just 24 days and I don't know what else I can do with that little amount of time, but I told myself when that day comes, I will try to eat a little,if I could at all, because the food at Discovery Shores is just as delicious as it sounds.
It would also mean the end of my self-imposed diet restriction, but I kind of like weighing less and being back to S size, so I may as well continue choosing what I eat and exercising. Thankfully, after the taste test we did a month ago at the Discovery Shores, I know what I will be having: a piece of lechon skin, the carving station's Angus beef, and mango cheesecake.
But I know the Aklan oysters are not to be missed; the Hawaiian Salmon lomi lomi would be perfect with a cocktail or the peppermint iced tea we are having customised in our signature red, green and yellow colors. Cis, you must try the clear vegetable soup with pesto (I think I have the recipe- it was that good we asked for it). Laurie would love the hand-rolled mozzarella and grape salad, while the boys (and when I say boys I mean men in general) would love the seared lamb ribs with their homemade BBQ sauce. I would also love to taste the Singaporean Chilli Crab (which L knows is my favorite- but how could I eat that at my wedding??!!). Cis, remember to taste the BLT rigatoni with bacon, arugula and sun-dried tomatoes. Belissimo! This would wash well with Imperial Moet and Chandon. Oh, for dessert, the halo halo would be perfect too. After some dancing, I'm already thinking I will go back to the buffet table and have another round.
Do I sound like a foodie? You betcha!
I guess what I'm trying to say is, all those dieting and exercise will pay off. You get to wear your 2-piece, and then eat wonderfully prepared food on the 30th. All your lovely laughter would be a great accompaniment to the video I will be taking with my Canon G11, and those who have their HD videocamera (paging JVP) please bring them along. (Hahaha. Naubos ang budgey at napunta lahat sa food!)
All those who know me know I love good food, and cheers to our friends and families who are all foodies as well!

35 Days To Go: Dear April
Posted on Mar 27, 2010 02:56 AM
Dear April,
The wedding ticker is starting to make me nervous, but while typing this, Glee's Rachel singing Endless Love ballad with Mr.Schu made me pause and enjoy the song (oops erase- L says no cheesy contemporary love song of any kind in the church ceremony).
Actually, I've had the Glee DVD for weeks, and a friend has been bringing me 2 DVDs each week, but I am failing to find the time to relax. Sleep is also elusive because I keep thinking of so many things happening sooner rather than later - but I try to manage, and live day by day, task by task.
Actually, your Kuya Louie and I are really tired after the last 3 days/2 nights we spent in Boracay (especially him who went to the airport without any sleep and went straight back to work for another night duty). Surprisingly, we still managed to enjoy the island and discovered more new things we'd like to share with you and Chichi when you get here for the first time. .
First of all, when you get here, drop your bag off and head outside to catch the island's gorgeous sunset. The color palette differs each day, and today we get this ideal orange sunset. Many people come out and watch the sun bid adieu; some do this even when they are alone. Just occupy a seat at the beachfront, sip a beer, sit quietly alone, be mindful of the beauty and joy surrounding you, and watch until the sun sets.
It would be ideal to have this photo shot taken at dusk, but your Kuya Louie did not bring his tripod and umbrella for this shot. Maybe you can ask Kuya Mike to bring his tripod and have your shot taken like this? ("eeeeewwwww"- mike) . But I bet, Bea would love to have this shot with her "Pare."

I'm scared of what you guys might do with so little time, so I suggest you may want to catch some shuteye and reserve your strength for the night. Bora's night life is a alive and thriving, even after 1 AM. We usually sleep in the afternoon when the sun is really hot (don't forget your sublock, lalo na si Teryo), and do go out during happy hour. In Bora, we usually don't have a sense of time- so you can sleep all day and stay up all night. Truth is, I'm thinking you might be awake for the whole 3 days here haha. Or at least drunk from the stupor.

Imagine: when you get here on the 29th, we have a church rehearsal. That's from 5:30 til 6:30. Then we head to basecamp: BLUE LILLY VILLA which is just across the church. We will have a BBQ party for family and the entourage, and perhaps some more friends. We will make do. Your Kuya Louie's relatives from Iloilo will bring rice and probably adobo and ripe mango. Plus of course, the freshest catch from Estancia. My relatives will probably be busy in the cooking. For our rehearsal dinner, it will be simple: kanin all you can, BBQ (pork), ribs, fish, burger patties (your Kuya Mike's favorite). In between laughter and BBQ we will most likely have ice cold beer (the Blue Lilly has a bar area, the beer we will have to order from somewhere so it's cheap). Because we won't have them at Discovery Shores. P120/bottle is robbery, man.
You won't mind if I ask Gary (talent scout for Chichi) to co-host with Chi on the games? Your Kuya L and I want the girls pitted against the boys in Pinoy Henyo. Then a beer drinking contest, which includes hula hoops after finishing the beer (yes, like a relay), and ends with firedancing (joke!). A banana eating contest would be good, but I only eat Dole cavendish banana these days (thanks to Cis), and I don't think they have it there. Buco would cost us P90 to P120 bucks so hmnnn..maybe we'd end up playing poker or tong-its?
Nah. If Buboy was here, or Cedric, we can have them play the guitar, and Bi Log can sing, "Torete" in acoustics, and we judge whether Cerlyn is a better singer than Bea, who will render the acoustic version of Borderline naman.
The attire at the rehearsal dinner should be this: 2-piece. So bahala na kayo how to interpret that. I'm thinking of Papsboy, who will not be joining us there (sad). Hay. I have to visit him before he leaves. Anyway, my Papa is a good cook, and he takes in short orders (he usually does this with his grandchildren), so don't worry about food, that's his way of showing his love- rendering an act of service (like your Kuya L, who, come to think of it, were both born on August 10).
I think on the 29th, you would have probably seen Andy9 of Magic 89.9 because they have their MagicRace4 during that week. She used to be your chicka girlfriend in Montessori pala. Invite her to join us, and I'm sure my bosses, and other men, including the boyfriends of my girls Flery and Cis will come to sort of bump into our little party. Wouldn't that be cool?
Just make sure Chichi and the guys get some sleep because you know, D-day is on Friday, and hopefully none of you will be hung-over, or is losing a tooth, or has a tiger in their bedroom, and oh I hope the guys will not misplace L! (Hangover the movie, remember?)
By Friday, we meet up at the Discovery Shores for the make-up, but Bebe, please note that Pat will concentrate on the bride and groom, and not on you ha? During our wedding, please don't cry when I look at you, because I will most probably cry too. One person I would definitely avoid looking at is Kwang. You don't know her, but I will introduce her to you.
You and Chichi make a lovely , no, in honor of Michael Jackson, a pretty young thing (couple). So don't fight if Chichi's eyes ogle at the women at the beach who will be in their latest season's swimsuits. We can look at The Boys Night Out, or some other model who will probably spend the labor day weekend there. Check your emergency kit to include double sided tapes and make sure your b__b won't be seen like what happened to Anne Curtis here. Apparently ASAP was here last week (Zsa Zsa was on the same plane as I was- big boobs (silicone), and super dry hair). Take note, she is billeted at the Shangri-la Resort, with a PA, a hair and make-up artist, plus two LV luggages in tow.
The other details we leave as to the way they will naturally unfold. Basta, enjoy the night. Enjoy the food. Trust me, the memory will be priceless. But don't ask the price because Discovery Shores is really takai, as they say in Japanese. I know you love photos, so I made a little corner into a sunset photo section, complete with loose petals and an inviting couch. Take turns while you enjoy your cocktails to the sounds of Astrud Gilberto and a lot of those chillout CDs your Kuya L has prepared. This will help you digest your food, and we start serving the alcohol na, so your Kuya Mike, who is the best man, can get himself to make a toast.
The rest will be a blur, I know, but as long as you're having fun, I will be happy. Watch out for the live performance of the Coffeebreak Island- Paul has a really really good voice. I asked for 6 autographed CDs from their manager- maybe we should make a contest and raffle it off. Basta, enjoy yourself, you can even thrash your dress, or dance in the moonlight.
In the meantime, let's prepare for our Vespa cum LV prenup shoot at the Canyon Woods on April 17, ok?
Don't get too excited. I still have tons of stuff to do at work, and I might as well force myself to sleep, because I have a 2PM flight to catch to Tokyo.
Love,
Ate Arms

The Notebooks: Discovery Weekend Highlights
Posted on Mar 14, 2010 11:58 PM
The outputs from the Discovery Weekend marriage preparation seminar are certificates and two notebooks. The former we needed as an equivalent to a pre-cana seminar, a requirement from the church, the latter, are now two of my prized possessions. Although the weekend was fully booked from 8-12 midnight the first night, 6:30AM til 11 PM the second day, and 6:30 AM until 5:30 PM on the last day, L felt the dialogue sessions were not enough.
Aha!
From someone who was unable to express his feelings and would rather demonstrate his love through actions, this was certainly a miracle, an act that only God could have made him do. I have been verbalizing this for years, but he would always tell me that I know his ways are different. We both realize this is one of the reasons we have unmet expectations and frustrations. Men and women are created differently and have different languages of love. To me quality time and words of affirmation rank high, while to him loving means rendering an act of service. (This is why he is so proud whenever he cooks for me, and whenever I give him gifts it felt like it meant less than when I would prepare dinner, when my gifts would often be well-thought out.) We are different individuals because we came from different families with different cultures, rituals, behaviors, and naturally, we have different languages of love.
The dialogue sessions were very practical tools that the weekend has imparted with us. It taught us that before we do problem solving (which men are inclined to do, oftentimes ending an argument with, "Sorry na"), we first need to mutually understand each other's feelings. This requires emphatic listening, confrontation with caring, communicating each one's inner self, before jumping to how the issue can be resolved.
Aha! Psychogenetics! "You will bring your family of origin into the marriage." The process involves asking each other about our families because this would play a great role in our expectations as husbands and wives. Ask one another- What are the values that are important to your family of origin? How is your mother as a mother? As a wife? Who is the power in your family? How does your family deal with anger? Stress? Were there infidelities? Certainly, they tell us issues will arise- from where and when to spend Christmas Eve (which family at which time), to more complicated issues. Marriage calls on the couple to be more aware- there must be a conscious effort to change certain things to make the marriage last. (I think this is one of the reasons we were able to grow in our relationship- I being stubborn, and him being macho. Over the recent years, we have role played by asking each other to put ourselves in the other person's shoes. We each have to acknowledge that we needed to understand where the other person is coming from, before making judgments, which can lead to quarrels.)
Going back to the dialogue sessions. This is the part we most appreciated because the Discovery Weekend allows us time to discuss our answers to guide questions on understanding each other as individuals, we as a couple, we as a couple + God, and as a couple serving others. We are asked if we fully understand ourselves, because unless we do so, we cannot fully love our partners. We are asked about the growth in our relationship, 'Am I confident about your love for me?" What are our issues with each other? How does this make me feel?" There were many words of affirmation, but we also had to confront our issues, with caring. " "In what ways have I hindered your growth as a person? How does this make me feel?" Before we dialogue, the facilitator calls on the guest speakers (married couples who would share their presentation- basically the story of their marriage, their realizations as individuals and as a couple, and the hardships and triumphs they went through). Both the husband and the wife have a voice during their presentation, which they read out, so both side of the story is heard. We are then asked to reflect with the guide questions given out. We answer individually, and then convene to dialogue as a couple. We are supposed to be focused on each other, and discourage mingling with the other couples (they rotate our couple seating arrangement for every meal!).
There were many revelations, yes, in spite the fact that we have been together for ten years. When our hearts and minds are open, and with God guiding our feelings throughout the process, we were able to discuss things without being forced to. L's heart was open, and he was able to fully express his feelings and acknowledge the affirmations I give him.
I wrote:
"... You began to open up, and words that I know were your true feelings poured out from you. I cried when I read what you wrote when we were seated at the stairs (guide question on You and I as a couple). I pointed out to you one by one the many blessings that you have, and fail to see. That I see you that way, a blessing, God's gift for me."
And then yesterday I felt closest to God as a couple. I felt God was with us, guiding you and me to process our thoughts in our hearts. I cried again when you said the words that I so longed to hear. And you kissed and embraced me, but then I still had a question. I asked you - "How do I forget the hurt of the past?" . But then the bell rang (signaling that time for dialogue was up).
God answered it by the act of reconciliation, when we were called by the bell to confess our sins to the priest and to lift up all our hurts and pains so that we can start anew. I had no clue this was part of the retreat- but there it was, an answered prayer!
I feel we are ready.
With God's blessings, we are allowed to marry this time. "
He wrote:
"My dearest Hon,
I have hindered your growth by making you wait, albeit, with a sad heart because it has hurt us both. We should have been married earlier, but I was too self-obsessed to see. I hope to recoup those years by making our future together a happy one as much as I can manage."
This Discovery Weekend is the time I felt we are closest to God as couple. I feel blessed to have come this far with you. In spite our differences, I still know that it is us.
I feel that a life shared with you will be a beautiful one, a big movie production in high definition;a big hit at the box office-flooded with action, comedy and drama- maybe suspense, 'wag sana horror, with the soundtrack of our lives playing in the background; the two of us in the lead cast- our roles supported by an all star-cast of family, good friends and colleagues. It will be punctuated by the highlights of our lives.
It will be a great production, directed by the greatest director the world has ever known: God."
(Well, well, well, who knew he would be this creative, and we didn't know but this is the only part that had to be shared to the entire class!}
The other real important discussion about marriage we dialogued was about The Marriage Expectation Inventory.
It talks about quality time, our thoughts on love, after a quarrel, who makes the first move?, Money (joint or separate savings?), Having children? Adopting? What values are important for us to impart to our family, sexuality, roles of relatives in our lives, and so on. Again it is important that you share the truth, and ask each other what are the non-negotiables. This was a breeze for us, and in fact we were laughing as we checked our answers. There was a question on what should the husband and wife do when they are quarreling? He says drink, I agreed. We were both longing for an iced cold beer in the humid heat during the weekend.
There was a question on what if the wife had a bigger salary than the husband, the husband should
a. be humble enough to accept it
b. be ashamed of himself
c. rely on the wife and take life easy
d. work harder and strive to get a higher pay
He had my paper, and I had his (his answer was D, same as mine), but he said his real answer is " be ashamed of himself, rely on the wife and take it easy." (We were rolling on the couch, with laughter).
The couple also needed to discuss expectations regarding the in-laws, children, religious expectations and expectations related to communication and sex.
I'd like to end with what Fr. Chris (Irish priest from the OMI) told the guys. He reminded the guys that actions are not enough, that the men needed to say "I love you" to their wives, and must learn to not just express his thoughts about ideas lengthily; he must now be able to express his feelings. The guys have to learn this skill!
"Before you receive the sacrament of matrimony, look into each other's eyes and tell your partner: You are God's gift to me. Because God has chosen this person to be the perfect person for you, in order to share his love with one another, with your children and with others. If you are unable to do that, you need to discern more."
We were both emotionally and physically exhausted after the Discovery Weekend, but both feel God called us for this. In the midst of our wedding preparations, we so needed to prepare for the marriage.

The Bridal Gown Fitting
Posted on Mar 12, 2010 12:09 AM
Retchel, Debbie Co-Teng's assistant, points out to me my wedding dress, which simply hangs on the wall hook, along with my Mama's gown. I stared at it, and it looked flat, even wide. It was too simple. I brushed the idea aside, and focused on my mother's jersey gown. She has thinner arms than me, but her puson is big, and then magically disappears when a 2-inch band is pulled around her waist. This is her most formal dress, no, scratch that, her most formal event, and I wanted her to look like the mother of the bride. You know- gorgeous, happy, elegant and age appropriate. My mother would typically not raise concerns over a dress, or make a fuss out of say, a blotched hair coloring job, so I told Debbie's girls to make sure they check her fit properly because otherwise she would just say ok. My mother is like that. So of course, she deserves the best.
It was so easy to dress her up, according to Debbie, and she knew right away what style would fit her. So after adjusting the hem, and the waistline, we move on to L's mom, whom I now call Mama (but I'm thinking of naming her another one because I've only had one mama for the longest time). This trip, by the way, is a girl thing, and I suddenly missed my sister, and my BFFs. Well, my sister, not so much, actually because her 5-year old daughter strolled around Debbie Co's atelier like she does it everyday, and points at a red ruffle long gown Mai Kaufmann modeled for Debbie at a Pond's event. "I want to wear that, Tita Armi". I am flabbergasted. How can she point out to what I think is the most expensive piece in the house? So anyway, it was L's mom's turn and instantly I love the nude color on her, and the flowy drapes around the sides, the off shoulder design that will be accented by the same beads that will be in mama's waistband. I realized it was harmonious with my gown, and I looked back at it, but it still wasn't telling me, "LOVE!".
I began to think of Cielo, my maid of honor, who is supposed to be here with me at this very moment. A dress! I seldom wear a dress, and I've never owned a long gown in my entire life. Yep, true story. And then suddenly, flashes of BFF-S's warnings were reverberating: " It doesn't matter who the designer is, the key is for her to know what will suit you, your color, height, body type, skin tone. The best way for you to find that out is try on gown after gown and see what fits you best. You have to look leaner and longer! I've seen a lot of brides in my life that made me want to say,"What were you thinking?"" He emails me this while he is in France, and I am a little pissed because (1) I think I know what suits me or not, but ok, maybe not all the time (2) I trust my designer, so why won't he? (3) I picked Debbie because I love her style, and (4) It's my wedding, and my gown, wtf! (kidding).
Anyway, I cut him off from any news about wedding gowns or dresses,or the entourage outfit because he can be so cruel and so kuripot. I actually sometimes need both. Which brings me back to this moment, when there I was- alone in the room, getting out of my jeans and into my gown. What was I expecting? An entourage? An audience? Relaxing music, a soft couch, and maybe a glass of champagne? I quickly snap out of it and try on the dress.
WOW.
This is so me. Simple, classic, elegant, flowy. Beach appropriate, and appropriate for my personality. Debbie comes to check me out, and we agree on thinner straps, lower V-neckline for the front and back, and a small train behind the back of my dress. The dress is unfinished because silver beadwork would be applied on the waistband to also help accentuate my waist,
Overall, I loved it. I took photos of course, but will not be revealing the design until D-DAY.
Picure at the front, turn right, show the back, and another turn. Shocks, those arms need an emergency lipo-cedure;
I MMS the pics to the 2 BFFs and they love it too. Cielo said I looked leaner and she was sure I am going to be a gorgeous bride (that's hard because these girls, my girls, are gorgeous. The other BBF had something to say, but describes the gown has, what he calls "big potential."
I wanted to show this to Dylan of Vatel Manila so he can think about the right flower bouquet for me.
I keep my final judgenent til the next time, but can i just say this:
":EyeLoVe it!

Picure at the front, turn right, show the back, and another turn. Shocks, those arms need an emergency lipo-cedure;

Today's Topic: The Beauty Regimen
Posted on Mar 06, 2010 11:37 PM
First of all, it's March, and we now have only 56 days til the big day.
However, work is at its busiest ever. This month, we've launched a major summer campaign (media launch was last week), and the store launch is this Wednesday. But this early, the feedback is positive and I already get mails from people I don't know asking if they can share about our 7-elections after I posted some pictures on my facebook page (check out www.7-elections.com.ph), One asked to blog about it, and so on and so forth. There is buzz, and we're all excited for the Wednesday launch. There will be two other major activities, a tradeshow, a supplier's night event, and a business trip to Tokyo. Again, note to self: Bakit ko pinili ang peak season? Plus my pamangkins are leaving soon! And all those weekends I'm gone!
In between working at home, at the office, and after office, I still do my Monday boxing, Tues/Thursday circuit training and Wed, Sunday badminton. Lately, I sleep way past 12, sometimes at 2 AM, yesterday at 3 AM. Must be the OC in me trying to make sure things are in order. My maid of honor, is apparently more busy than me since Cielo is transferring to SG for a new job at Rolls Royce while juggling her teaching post at UST and the job she just quit. So at night I lay awake, stickering the invites (thanks Kamille for sending them out for me), checking my gantt chart, chatting with my coordinator, and coordinating with L for approval (who is, as usual, on EMEA time).
This day, I added one more agenda to my regimen. The beauty regimen.
After a grueling circuit training with Tan, I paid a visit to my regular dermatologist, and my last visit was in 2007. I told him I disappeared because L and I used to go there together at that time, and we split up shortly after that so I just stopped going, but I am back since we are getting married (yey! they say) and I wanted to ask what sort of beauty regimen I should do (hoping to get some sympathy, congratulations and discount all at the same time- negotiation skills, hehe).
Doc Melvin (brother of Triggerman) tells me that thanks to technology there are many things that are fail- proof. I tell him what do I do with my arms, I want to lose inches! He pretends not to notice what I said and focuses on my face.
Doc: Patingin nga ng mukha mo (then he flips his microscopic gear which is almost always attached to his head)
Bubble thought: (Matatakpan naman ng make-up ang discoloration ng face ko eh.)
A: Doc, yung arms ko paliitin mo wag yang mukha ko tignan mo
Doc: Aba syempre kelangan magsimula sa mukha
A: Ok, fine!
Doc: Maayos naman, malinis naman mukha mo. Pero nanggigigil ako sa nunal mo, i surgery na natin yan.
A: Doc parati mo sinasabi yan, pero arms ang gusto ko lumiit!

He then tells me about his new machines, a therma wave (RF) device that tightens the skin, and a lipoderm machine that dissolves fat via laser. He quotes me a price, which is generous, compared to the 2 other doctors I went to.
The reason I wanted to research is because there are so many things they are saying out there, and I wanted to hear for myself. Does it really work? (Note to self: Donate the abs machine rocker i got from shopping TV last year- a fat chunk of my bonus went to ....the closet).
I asked many questions pa, and told him is it safe if I exercise, because I exercise a lot these days. And what is mesotherapy? Why are you not recommending it when two years ago you wanted me to exercise before you inject me with that messo thing. He said because mesotherapy is via injection so aside from the fact that it is invasive, it is painful and I may have bruises. So back to technology, and he plus sells me a package.
I thought about it but ended up with a power peel. He said 3 powerpeels before the wedding and I should be fine. Note to self: Hindi ka artista hahaha
In the meantime I was thinking of several things:
I think I found her! There is this pair of satin shoes that caught my eye the last time I was at Rockwell. I think she's the one!
My first bridal dress fitting is also due this week. Shocks!
Pre-nup photo pegs. A DIY project or entrust to a professional?
"Chillax." It's saturday, and I am signing off with a glass of Sauvignon.
You know you love me,
XOXO

The Entourage Outfits
Posted on Feb 28, 2010 11:21 PM
While we're on the topic of your outfit, we'd like first of all, to make you feel comforable, so choose fabrics that are 100% cotton, or chiffon, or any light fabric in earth or neutral colors. The guys will be garbed in this outfit and the HAT is actually not a bad idea, considering the girls would be wearing their parasols.
Photo by Jose Villa (www.josevillablog.com. His rate starts at US $12,000)
As for shoes versus slippers, the guys said they would wear sandals but asked me to check with the church if this would be allowed. Noted. The guys would be in a Chinese collar white long-sleeved cotton top and khakis.
The girls would be in light beige with Japanese chiffon fabric, done in two layers as this fabric is too light.

Our mothers would be in dark beige jerseys, from Debbie Co, while our flowers girls will be in tutu layers of white, pink and lavander chiffon.
The girls will be wearing flat sandals which they can wear to the reception, as well.
L will be in a white suit, with cotton polo and white pants, while I will be wearing a gown made our of silk chiffon. That one I can't reveal, though. The big reveal happens on the big day.
Which is, now, only 60 days away!
Panic mode.
So the next few weeks will be about our misalette and church service, as well as a weekend of reflection with our Discovery Weekend marriage preparation.
Are you as excited as I am?
