There are some days when I am too lazy to go out at night, but this particular Saturday, we were invited to meet up with L's friend for a birthday celebration. I forced myself to turn off the TV watching The Tudors on DVD, and decided a nightcap would be good. This time we were in Katipunan, at a place called Route 196, which, from the crowd, looked like a hangout of Ateneans. They were that young, aka students. We waited for Jenna, the birthday girl, to turn up, and in the meantime chatted with Raymund Marasigan, who was playing there for the first time.
The bands prior to them were playing hard rock songs, you know, the kind that is loud and unintelligible. Sandwich, on the other hand, played Chillax music (chill rock?). While seated Raymund greets me and asks me where we have been, then tells me Joey (their friend from Kingspoint) won in Singapore a contest, and he was able to watch the F1 series there. Shortly thereafter they begin their set. I noticed we were a lot older than the crowd, and I told L although Raymund's voice does not have the same quality as Elly, it seemed he is able to keep the band together, with him as a leader. Just like what he said in the interview with Gang Badoy at the Philippine Star shortly after the E-heads gig, his bands now are his family. You can see the interaction between band members, and they genuinely like each other.

I noticed Myrene (Raymund's girl who used to be a NU107 dj)was wearing boots with an oversized gray tee and shorts. Half-seated, half standing, her legs looked elongated; she plays the role of the rocker chick to the hilt. Bagay. Understated.

Raymund later on calls one of Francis M's daughters who looked a lot like Maxene and they sing "Cold Summer Nights", previously sang by Pia, Francis' wife. I loved that song, and sang along.

They only sang 5 songs and dedicated the last to L. Raymund says,
" I'd like to dedicate this to my good friend Louie, a friend from the 80s.." . They actually met in the 90s, but his last song was the one you see played on ETC's RJ channel,
"wala pa nung mp3, wala pa noong celphone, ipod"
"wala"
"meron lang betamax"
We stayed for a couple more beers after their set and were joined by the boys from KP, and then headed back home on a cold Saturday night. Jenna's party ended up at Dencio's, which we skipped. P40 beer and 3 sets of bands ought to do it.
