Blessed with a tropical climate that enjoys daily afternoon showers and benefiting farmers who do not need to invest in irrigation, Davao is rich in fruits that are plump, succulent and sweet. We chanced upon this durian vendor in Agdao market where I found the right way of buying durian. Apparently one has to have the durian opened, grab a bite of the durian flesh, and then one can opt to have just the fruit packed in plastic to take home.

Durian costs P80 here in Davao.
Chicken Joy
P5 deep-fried chicken skin is a hit here. We are indeed a fried chicken nation.

Imagine one meal can cost you a little less than P10 if you have rice and fried chicken skin. I sigh knowing how simply most people in the provinces live, and how little we need to survive.
Mangosteen, Pomelo and Lanzones
As I said in my facebook status, you know you're no longer in Manila when you're served mangosteen and pomelo in meetings. I luveit!

How to choose the best pomelo?
Select the heavy one. This is an indicator that the fruit is juicy and pinkish in color. The brand touted by locals as the best one is the Golden Pomelo.

Tuna Town
With General Santos only a 3-hour drive, Davao enjoys tuna and is abundant in the choice of restaurants here. Tuna as large as one meter are fairly common in the wet market and price per kilo is only P98. Really cheap compared to my buys in Farmer's market. We had dinner for three nights in restaurants that all serve tuna. The best, by far, is at Yellow Fin, a very unassuming Filipino restaurant done carinderia/turo turo style in a large airconditioned restaurant setting.
A weird find is this egg roe from Taklobo restaurant.

Reactions when this was placed on four different tables:
Me (wide-eyed, and said in bubble thought only): Ang laki!
Girl 2: Takot ako!
Guy 2: This ridicules my manhood!
Guy 3: The essence of a man
Girl 3 (whispering): Parang bayag!
Guy 4: It's a dick! (shempre cono sya)
LOL!
